4-WALL Leadership is a term used to empower the Bar Manager’s sense of responsibility for their store. Meaning that regardless of who (RM, TM, OM, CM) is in the store, it is still the Bar Manager’s responsibility to secure the performance within their 4 walls (Customer Area, Stockroom, Toilet, bar). All responsibility is directed through the appointed Bar Manager to further empower their position as the leader. A 4-Wall Leader is a Bar Manager who takes ownership and care of the entire performance within the 4 walls (store) on a daily basis.

Understanding the Influential Role of a Bar Manager

Every Juicer who decides to develop a career and progress through the MoneyBall, is at some point first inspired by a Leader. Whether this was their Bar Manager, Regional Manager, SWAT, or Market Manager, they all became motivated by witnessing their inspiring role model being good at their job, showing confidence, and generally enjoying what they do. This appeals to the Juicer and then they also want to see themselves in that position = THE TRIGGER.

Ask any Shift Manager, Bar Manager, SWAT, Regional Manager… who their TRIGGER was for inspiring their own development. If the store has a strong leader (the Bar Manager) then the potential for continued motivation and development will be even greater. If the store has a poor leader, a Bar manager who is not good at their job doesn’t show confidence or enjoyment, then the Juicers have NO TRIGGER to want to develop. Why would any Juicer want to become more if the role doesn’t look appealing?

This is why the Bar Manager role is the most important MoneyBall position in JOE. Day-to-Day 4-WALL LEADERSHIP can influence much stronger on a Juicer team than any other leadership role which is less frequently present in the store. Now is the time for you to step up and become that leader the Juicers will be inspired by!

The overall theme on this MoneyBall Level is to teach a Bar Manager Junior the mind-set of 4-WALL LEADERSHIP. From here on, it’s about learning how to develop your leadership skills further, to ensure you have the right tools for succeeding in the role. 4-WALL LEADERSHIP is a concept that will constantly be referenced and demonstrated throughout the 7 modules by providing tools to help optimize the store performance and drive up Index.
