The manifest of MUCH MORE
The Manifest reflects the culture we want to establish – diverse and inclusive – and we all have to work together towards this common goal and in line with the values presented in the Manifest.
“In JOE & THE JUICE, we focus 100% on people! We continuously strive to become better at igniting and inspiring spirits across the planet to increase their focus on realizing their potential and forming strong social ties with each other.
We want to be diverse, inclusive, and open-minded in our approach to the world. We invite everyone who can accept our fundamental purpose, goals, and disciplines, to join, regardless of background. We strive to develop a culture that delivers an unseen level of meaningfulness in the intersection between our people and our workplace. We believe in opportunity, the power of discipline, responsibility, and precision to fuel individuality with humanity. We exist to inspire everyone in our movement to be as different as they want but never to be indifferent. We aim to create a space of intimacy with family ties that makes you feel at home – we call it INCLUSION. We enjoy being ambitious in all areas of our efforts, and we want to be proud of everything we offer and, above all, our attitude.”
To evolve the Company culture, we introduced the Code of Conduct that sets the norms for acceptable behavior and outlines that all employees have equal treatment and opportunities within the Company.
The purpose of this module is to proactively strengthen diversity and inclusion among our employees by increasing the awareness about biases and prejudice and how to prevent and overcome them to create an equal and safe workplace.
Biases and prejudice
(What are they and why do they exist?)
What are biases and prejudice?
Bias means that a person prefers an idea and possibly does not give an equal chance to a different idea.
Example: Someone consciously or unconsciously preferring another person for his/her belonging to a particular race or religious belief.
Biases can be:
- Explicit – conscious/open bias – the person is aware of it.
- Implicit – unconscious/hidden bias – the person is not aware of it.
Prejudice means a preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or experience.
Example: Someone thinking poorly of another person for his/her belonging to a certain race, or for having different religious beliefs without ever having an actual reason or experience with that certain race or religion.
How do we learn them?
Science says we begin to acquire biases and prejudices as toddlers without really understanding their significance. Once learned, biases and prejudices are hard to change, even when not directly supported by the evidence.
It is in human nature to accept stories/statements that strengthen biases and ignore experiences that contradict them.
How do they influence our behavior?
Science shows that people can be consciously strongly committed to equality and behave without prejudice, yet still have hidden negative biases and prejudice acquired earlier in life, and demonstrate them under stressful situations, when they lose control over their behavior.
Hidden biases may be related to discriminatory behavior in a wide range of human interactions, from hiring and promotions to housing choices and schools, and can hinder the creation of a fully diverse and inclusive workplace.
The picture below shows the visible and “invisible” biases and prejudice a person may have or display. It is important that we are all aware of biases and that we all actively promote the culture of acceptance, understanding, inclusion, and diversity.
Diversity and inclusion
(with no space for biases and prejudice)
As a global company, JOE & THE JUICE acknowledges that different societies may have different systemic challenges related to equality and justice. As a brand, we strive to ensure a safe and equal environment for our employees and customers. We strongly believe that changes should start from within each one of us. We encourage all of our employees to practice and uphold the below-listed positive behaviors to prevent biases and prejudice that may unconsciously and unintentionally occur in the interaction with coworkers or customers.
Further, we advise treating everyone with equality, justice, and respect as you want to be treated.
Appreciation and affirmation are morale boosters and lead to a more motivated and productive workplace over time.
We wish all of our employees to become champions of positive workplace behaviors listed below.
• Be present.
• Be open-minded and approach everyone with an open heart.
• See people as they wish to be seen and not as you want to see them.
• Promote inclusion and make room for everyone.
• Make new connections in the workplace.
• Honor your feelings.
• Own your experiences and speak from them rather than generalizing them.
• Avoid assumptions.
• Listen with compassion and without judgment.
• Acknowledge and validate everyone’s experience and identity.
• Consider every dialogue as an opportunity for growth and learning.
• Appreciate the diversity of opinions.
• Celebrate diversity in each of its forms.
• Take the risk of being uncomfortable when your biases or prejudice get contradicted – you may learn something.
• Be aware that now everyone is equally mindful of their own biases or prejudice – help them increase their awareness.
• Look for excellence in the work of others and be respectful.
• Compliment your coworkers as that may motivate them to compliment someone else.
• Be and act as a role model. Supervisors are important role models for colleagues and employees.
Open conversation
We know that biases and prejudice may not be an easy topic to discuss, but JOE & THE JUICE wants to have an open conversation about these topics with its employees. You are encouraged to share your concerns or suggestions anonymously via Peakon or directly via email to compliance@joejuice.com.
We are here to listen because we care.
We will act and ensure that JOE & THE JUICE values and Manifest are upheld.
