Value-Based Leadership is a mindset and leadership style that balances ethical principles, company values, personal beliefs and competences when leading in a people centric organization.
It guides leadership decisions and behaviours whilst influencing and inspiring others to act with the same mindset.
As a Regional Manager following the mindset of Value Based Leadership will create a strong synergy between personal and company beliefs.
The purpose of this module is for the Regional Manager to act with awareness and consciousness while having a high level of autonomy and integrity when leading people.
By constantly reflecting about the company values and how they are positively combined with personal beliefs, the RM will master the skill of leading with integrity and self respect when making decisions.
Value-Based Leadership will help a RM create a strong culture, fostering collaboration and teamwork in all stores. All Juicers will be inspired to go above and beyond to meet the organization’s goals. When implementing a common set of values for all employees to understand and follow, it improves the engagement, productivity and the willingness to work together in alignment.
A team will ultimately move in the same direction towards a common goal and have a better chance of succeeding together.
To lead according to Company Values, a leader must consider different angles. This ensures that every decision they make matches the important aspects of the company's values.
Initially, the leader must ensure that their actions are lawful. Then, they should reflect on the company's overall manifest and values, while making sure their decisions align with company strategy and mission. It's crucial for the leader to remember their own values and stay authentic. Finally, they must use their competences appropriately to complete the task at hand.
To lead with company values, a leader must consider legal requirements, reflect on the company's mission and vision, stay true to their values, and use their skills effectively.
An employee will not believe in a set of values until they have been exposed to them repeatedly. In order for them to stick, the values should be reinforced at every chance given by the Leader. Making a link between values and practical scenarios will convince the Employees that the values mean more than “just” words.
The Company Values must be integrated into every employee-related decision such as: Recruitment, on-boarding, performance management, rewards, promotions and even disciplinary procedures.
When Employees live up to the desired behaviour, a Leader must continuously demonstrate Value Based Leadership towards the Employees for them to keep momentum. This will motivate the Employee to continue living up to the Company Values.
It should be understood that the RM should uphold a high level of Value Based Leadership in order for the Employee to stay on the chain of momentum. If the RM fails to show and demonstrate Value Based Leadership the chain of momentum will become rusty and break of time leading to undesired and misaligned behaviour.
In order for the RM to succeed in the role it’s important to differ between leadership and management. Both aspects of Leadership & Management are important in order, for all employees, to perform every day.
Management mindset has focus on the work tasks with a get things done attitude. Focus on structures, materialistic things and appealing to the logic and the brain.
Leadership mindset has focus on the people and their feelings. Encourages and supports people towards a directions whilst appealing to the emotions and the heart.
It is called ‘Paradox Leadership’ as the RM needs to master both aspects to have real influence. This means that the RM should be neither a leader or a manager, but should be both in order to reach a commercial mindset.
Commercial mindset is the ability to create operational excellence by leading and developing people in alignment with our company values.
The RM should understand how each way of leading will lead to different decisions.
When leading people in alignment with Company Values, it's important to master the two skills of behaviour. First and foremost, an RM should demonstrate empathy and understanding towards others, and at the same time approaching interactions with a high level of humbleness.
Employees will only really respect and follow you if you firstly master the balance between leadership and management while consistently acting with integrity.
Means the RM is able to understand the feelings of others. Great Leaders understands the importance of showing compassion and willingness to help others.
Means the RM should believe that they are no different from the people who work for them. Great Leaders understand that the Employee holds just as much value to the company as they do.
When the RM manages to master the balance between leadership and management your Employees will respect you.
When the RM additionally manages to show humbleness and empathy through own personality the Employees will respect and follow you.
